He was born in 1919 in Rome, Province of Rome. Son of Luigi Sansonetti and Adele Clarini. Lawyer by profession. He served as Mayor of Mottola before accepting the position as director of SICA, after the death of his brother Giulio. He directed the Colony of San Vito for 10 years until 1962. He was accompanied on this adventure by his faithful wife Carla Garroni, born in 1920 in Rome, Province of Rome, and his children: Marina, Barbara, Ludovica, Carlo, Anna and Andrea, born in Italy and Gabriella, Giulio, Monica and Giovanni born in Costa Rica. In a note written to his children he describes the experience of the Colony, saying: “The history of the Colony, before being a history of works, is a history of men and women; More than a story of cutting down ancient forests and building farms, roads, houses, factories in prohibited conditions, it is a story of explorations, investigations and doubts, hopes and despairs, certainties and disappointments, sacrifices, many sacrifices, especially of some few for a better tomorrow, especially many others; the destiny of the pioneers. And finally, the most important thing is the story of the creation of a new human community.” I return to Italy with the whole family and the remains of Ugo and Carla rest there.
